Sherlock Holmes - The Spell of Flowers

Published:

Description

Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes surrounded by some flower-symbolism:
Iris stands for creativity and boundless energy (he has more than enough of both :XD: ),
Calla stands for immortality (which he certainly has achieved)
and
Opium poppy is self-explaining, I suppose.

Ah, JB-Sherlock Holmes + gaiters + Art Nouveau =

-----

Various screenshots from 'The Solitary Cyclist' and 'The Naval Treaty' were used as reference (and I'm rather proud of how he turned out here -- but yes, I know, the posture of his head is rather similar to my previous two pictures, it must be some subconscious preference for this pose :D ).

Done with Photoshop Elements 9 and a Wacom Bamboo tablet.

ahhhhh, I wanted to do my # letsplaysymbolism routine, but you already did it for me! And how brilliantly! But also, y'know, I want to see this poppy is a wartime remembrance flower. For Watson. Sure, it's anachronistic (remembrance poppy has only been used since 1921), but I D C. THIS IS A POPPY HONOURING WATSON.

This is such a poignant and beautiful piece of art. It twists something within me, in a bittersweet way. This is another sparkling facet of your art, lesser-seen but no less precious for that. I'd compare it to the feelings Tchaikovsky's music inspires :'>

I called you Chainka for a reason, didn't I.

Oh, I spy Carpi's half-spheres here <3 <3 Very fitting - they do so echo the poppies. And by god, your flowers are divine. I love these austere black irises and the gentle callas and the delicate blood red poppies with stems that almost look like they'd sting. You've conveyed the meanings of the flowers in the sheer way you drew them, and my inner naturist is awed and rejoices at this.

And oh, Holmes' expression is so dreamily melancholy ;___; good, good. good. I believe Jeremy would like this work.

Such beautiful lettering you have here! I see my calligraphy-loving friend ^^

Thank you for this, truly.
